Selena Gomez: 'I needed to sing Who Says'

Selena Gomez has said that she needed to sing her hit track 'Who Says'.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actress and singer released 'Who Says', the first single from her third studio album When The Sun Goes Down, earlier this year.

During an appearance on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show on Wednesday, she said: "I feel like I obviously have an amazing platform so being able to use that for songs like 'Who Says' is really amazing. More than anything, I needed that song because to me it was really empowering.

"I'm going through the same things with all the stuff on the internet and everything. It's one of those songs that makes you feel good and it's really affected my fans and that makes me feel really good."

Gomez also admitted that although she tries to ignore negativity on the internet, she can still be affected by rumours that she reads online.

"I don't know everything that is being said," she told Seacrest. "I basically know the gist. I'm human and I'm 18 on top of that so it obviously affects me. I try not to focus on it but it's hard to avoid what is being said about you."

When The Sun Goes Down, which is the follow-up to A Year Without Rain, also features the new single 'Like A Love Song' and a track co-written by Britney Spears called 'Whiplash'.

Gomez is currently preparing to embark on a US tour with her band The Scene next month, which will feature a special Spears mashup as part of the setlist.

She can also be seen in the romantic comedy Monte Carlo, a mistaken identity adventure co-starring Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy, from July 1 in the US and August 24 in the UK.

Selena Gomez Says She Blamed Her Mum For Parents Divorce

Selena Gomez has revealed that she used to hold a lot of anger towards her Mother after the break up of her parents marriage when she was just five.

Speaking in an interview with E!, Selena spoke openly about her background and being raised alone by her Mum who fell pregnant with her aged just 16. Having left her Father at 21, Selena found herself alone with her Myum and arguments inevitable arose.

"I blamed my mom a lot [for the divorce] because I wanted a family so bad," Selena revealed. "I wanted to have my mom and dad together. I remember just being angry with my mom. I still feel really bad about that."

However, now she is older (17, ancient) Selena is proud of what her Mother achieved on her own.
"Having me at sixteen had to have been a big responsibility. My mom gave up everything for me and had, like, three jobs. She supported me, sacrificed her life for me," she said proudly.

Selena Gomez 'Rented Out' The Eiffel Tower

Selena Gomez, the 18-year-old girlfriend of pop superstar Justin Bieber, has joked she "rented out" the Eiffel Tower whilst filming new movie 'Monte Carlo' in Paris. Gomez and co-star Leighton Meester have been extolling the virtues of shooting the stylish new movie, which hits cinemas in the U.S. today (1st July 2011), reports Mtv News.

The movie follows the story of a young teenager mistaken for a British heiress while vacationing in Paris. Gomez, Meester and Cory Monteith spent around two months shooting the movie overseas in some of the most spectacular locations in the world. Discussing her time spent in France, Monaco and Hungary, Gomez said, "It was really cool to experience all those places for the first time". Meester agreed, adding, "It was fun both on- and off screen.We got up in the Eiffel Tower. But it wasn't just go up for a trip, we got there all alone. It was just us at 5 a.m. when the sun was just rising. It was really beautiful". Gomez joked, "We rented out the Eiffel Tower, no big deal". The movie is directed by Thomas Bezucha and is produced by the Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman.

Selena Gomez recently completed work on the highly anticipated comedy movie 'The Muppets'. The film boats an all-star cast including Emily Blunt, Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Amy Adams and KATY PERRY.

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are among the leading contenders for the Teen Choice Awards, with Justin Bieber, Adele, Lady Gaga and Eminem also scoring multiple nominations.

As reported by E!, the nominees cover the fields of movies, music, television, fashion, sports and more. ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ was the top nominee with 12 nods overall. The ‘Glee‘ Cast earned eight, including Choice Music Group.

Among musicians, Gomez picked up noms for Choice Music Group with the Scene, Music Single for ‘Who Says,’ Choice Love Song for ‘Love You Like a Love Song,’ as well as Choice TV Actress and Choice Female Hottie.

Swift was recognized for Female Artist, Female Country Artist, Female Fashion Icon, Country Single and Choice Love Song for ‘Mean,’ and Breakup Song for ‘Back to December.’ Notably, she competes against ex Joe Jonas for the Breakup Song Award.

Bieber shows up in some odd categories: Best TV Villian, for his role on CSI, Male Hottie, Male Fashion Icon, Male Artist, and Choice Twit, which presumably rewards the most interesting tweeter.

Justin Bieber takes a drink of his hot coffee from Au Bon Pain before heading over to Fox Studios to join girlfriend Selena Gomez in NYC on Wednesday morning (June 29).

The night before, the cute couple were spotted at A|X Armani Exchange picking up a few essentials from the shop.

A spywitness tells JJJ that Selena and Justin strolled throughout the two-level store hand-in-hand while picking out a few tees for him.

They left with a couple of A|X’s comfortable and stylish Pima cotton T-Shirts, both crew and v-neck, in grey and white.

The 18-year-old singer/actress talked with the hosts about not even thinking about leaving her Disney fans behind.

“I have finished with Disney Channel, but that does not mean that I want to completely disown the fact that I do have a younger generation looking up at me. I feel like I’ve done the best I can. If I make my family proud and if I make my fans proud that’s all that matters to me,” Selena shared.

Do Justin Bieber's Summer Plans Include Selena Gomez?

What will Justin Bieber be doing this summer? Well, aside from spritzing girls with his perfume, Someday, and recording new music, he's also going to have lots of barbecues. It seems that the world's preeminent pop superstar loves to do some grillin' and chillin'.

"Favorite thing to do in the summer?" he pondered for a moment. "Have barbecues."

Justin, who already has a chock-full schedule, has managed to become quite the skilled BBQ-er. "I can barbecue. I mean, I don’t make the sauce very well, but I can grill," he explained, quite enthusiastically. "No, [I can't cook]. I can just grill and stuff."


While he didn't mention whether Selena would be in attendance at any of these outdoor gatherings, the "Monte Carlo" star did share with us last year that she too enjoyed celebrating in the great outdoors.

Just as she was turning 18, she dished while promoting "Ramona and Beezus" that she was planning on throwing herself a little pool party. "[I'm going to have a] barbecue with my friends," she revealed. "We're gonna go swimming."

As if we needed another reason why these two kids are perfect for each other, the fact that they both love to barbecue, well that does spell true love!

Selena, 18, actually debuted the whole album on YouTube over the weekend, with a track-by-track breakdown.

“I think a lot of people, I do this a lot, think about the past, dwell in it or I think about the future. Sometimes I have a issue just embracing the moment I’m in and living in it. That’s what this song represents. You’re going to move different places and meet different people, but really just enjoy the moment you’re in, ” she shared about one of JJJ’s faves, “We Own The Night.”

Sel added, “It was co-written by Pixie Lott with Toby Gad. I’m a huge Pixie fan. I think she’s insanely talented, so young and has this powerful voice. She’s definitely one of my inspirations so I was very honored to have a song written by her.”

Selena Gomez Stands Up for Single-Parent Families

When Selena Gomez's birth parents divorced when she was just five years old, her working mother raised her as an only child. And while the Texas-born beauty has enjoyed much success at a very young age, she admits she didn't have an easy childhood but has come to terms with her parents' divorce.

"I just think it's really common nowadays, that you grow up in a single-parent household. I grew up like that, and I was fine. My dad was still in my life, so it was good," Selena told me when I sat down with her after seeing 'Monte Carlo,' her fun new movie. "I love that there's that message in the movie. Being able to be married into a family, which is so common, and having people you don't know like stepsisters and stepbrothers, and getting past the awkward stage. I think it was nice that we touched on that."

The film follows a young lady (Selena) who gets a stepsister (Leighton Meester) who couldn't be more different from her. Leighton, of 'Gossip Girl' fame, told me about growing up in her own blended family, and how she dropped the "step" and considers all of her siblings her brothers and sisters.

"I feel like we're all family, and it's actually a happier family then when I was younger and it was just me and my brothers," Leighton said. "I have sisters now, and I always wanted sisters, and so for the last nine years they've been my sisters. It's great, but I think a lot of people can relate to that.

Leighton said that the scenario in 'Monte Carlo' is realistic and that blending a family isn't without it's problems..

"It is sort of weird at first, I guess," she said. "I think the movie touches on that a bit. It's the same thing as meeting somebody on a movie, either they're cool or they're not."

For the record, these two ladies loved working together and tell me they were best mates after seven minutes. The film 'Monte Carlo,' which has a wonderful 'Cinderella' feel about it, opens this Friday.
