Taylor Swift: The World's Most Popular Cover Girl?

With millions of records sold and now eight No. 1 hit singles, Taylor Swift could also easily be labeled as the world’s most popular “cover girl.” She has been featured on magazine covers around the world.

Since her first magazine cover in 2008, Taylor has reached a level of stardom that most people can only dream of. She quickly made a name for herself through songwriting and music. Now her concerts sell out all over the world. Throughout the years she has branched out into other areas of the entertainment industry. She’s been on television shows like “CSI” and “Saturday Night Live,” and had a role in the film, “Valentines Day.” She is a spokesperson for CoverGirl and very active in philanthropy. It’s no wonder magazines want to picture her on the front cover.

Despite her success, she has been able to remain levelheaded unlike so many others who have reached her level of fame at a young age. She has kept her priorities straight through the entire process, which is why fans adore her all over the world. In looking back on the long list of magazine covers on which she’s been featured, you rarely find her picture on the front of a tabloid.

Taylor understands that she is a role model for younger girls and she doesn’t want to jeopardize that. Unlike so many other celebrities her age, she uses her fame and success to inspire others. She is always going out of her way to please her fans and doesn’t have to get in trouble in order to gain attention. The world could use more role models like her.

Taylor Swift Covers 'Philadelphia Style'

Taylor Swift is pretty in purple on the July 2011 issue of Philadelphia Style.

The 21-year-old country singer, wearing a Colette Malouf headpiece, opened up about being crazy for karaoke, her writing process, and not taking anything for granted. Check it:

On the anatomy of her songs: “I don’t really write songs in a structure. I write about my life. And it helps me to feel better about anything causing me pain or confusion. It’s a little addictive because it helps you figure things out in your life. If I think of a line that paints a picture, I’ll write it down. Some [songs] come four lines at a time and I’ll have a chorus. Other times I really have to work at it. But I have to say that my favorite songs were all written really quick.”

On living in the moment: “I think there are lessons I’ve come to learn in retrospect, like not taking for granted the really small shows, which weren’t even my shows—just my turn to sing karaoke. Now I’m looking into a big crowd of people and I’m able to appreciate [those times] so much. You have to find balance between being in the moment and getting to where you want to be. You’ve got to appreciate where you are when you’re there.”

On her karaoke past: “Before I started playing guitar, I would just practice my singing. I’d sing the national anthem and karaoke to win opening spots for artists coming through the Roadhouse in Stroudsburg and bars in Stone Harbor. I’d karaoke anytime—I even had my own little machine I’d carry around with me.”

Taylor Swift's Fictional BFF? 'Law & Order: SVU' Detective Olivia Benson

We should kind of hate Taylor Swift, right? She's gorgeous, talented and—come on—that hair. She's completely enviable. So what is it about her that makes her so girl-appealing? We're thinking it might have something to do with her tendency to prove, time and again, that despite all the talent and fame and hair, she's a lot like us.

Tay recently opened up to Teen Vogue about such hot-button topics as her favorite songs of the moment (they're pretty '90s-tastic) and which TV character she would most want to have dinner with (Olivia Benson of "Law & Order: SVU") and her answers just made us want to be BFFs with her even more.

Speaking of BFFs, Taylor revealed her secret to staying connected with so many friends: There's strength in numbers. With some friends who pop up at awards shows and others she sees on visits home, Taylor is never without a support system. "I'm so lucky to have so many people I love and trust," she gushed.

But having friends in high places doesn't make Taylor invincible against things like stage fright. Apparently, even after three hit albums and hoards of loyal fans, there is room for nerves. Don't worry—she's not going to clam up when you see her in concert this summer. It's more an "ohmigawd my idol is right there" kind of nervousness that hits around awards season.

"I do," she admitted when asked about nerves on stage. "But only if I'm not sure what the audience thinks of me, like at award shows. I never look down at the front row! My heroes watching = nerves!"

If the whole superstar singer thing doesn't work out for her, though, Taylor has other creative outlets to fall back on. If she weren't a singer-songwriter, Tay says she would consider advertising or writing.

"I'd be doing something creative and idea-related—like coming up with ad campaigns or writing novels. Or I'd work with kids!"

We hope Taylor sticks with music—somehow, venting a bad breakup into an ad campaign just doesn't seem like it would be the same.

Taylor Swift Covers 'Teen Vogue' August 2011

Taylor Swift goes Old Hollywood glam on the August 2011 issue of Teen Vogue.

The 21-year-old Nashville princess opens up about her bonds with her best girlfriends, becoming royal on stage every night and how she handles those nerves! Check it:

On her nerves just before performing: “I do [get nervous]. But only if I’m not sure what the audience thinks of me, like at award shows. I never look down at the front row! My heroes watching = nerves!”

On her BFF TV Character: “Detective Olivia Benson from Law & Order S.V.U. I sit in my apartment and watch hours of that show. So I sort of feel like me and Olivia are BFFs.”

On her best friends: “My friends all have different jobs — some I get to see at award shows, some I see when they’re home from college, some are in my band! I’m so lucky to have so many people I love and trust.”

On that dress that she absolutely loves: “I get to wear it every night on tour at the end of the show when I’m singing ‘Love Story.’ It’s long and sparkly (big surprise, right?) and a total princess dress.”

Even in the rain, Swift shines

When the rain came, Taylor Swift embraced it. It began as a light patter, adding a delicate backdrop to ballads about young love and how it inevitably leads to heartache.

Then came the downpour, and Swift decided if a sold-out Gillette Stadium was going to ride out the storm, so was she. The 21-year-old country-pop star was a trouper, a fact reflected not only in her tolerance for the weather, but also a two-hour performance that proved she is growing into her talent.

Swift already has a remarkable track record with Gillette. Her show here last summer marked her debut playing at a stadium; it was also the first time a female artist had headlined and sold out the cavernous venue.

But on Saturday night, for the first of two sold-out concerts, Swift returned as a more competent performer better equipped to balance her show’s theatrics with a steady focus on her singing.

The rain softened her, keeping the latter half of the evening brisk and especially heartfelt. Even the show-stopping moments were surprisingly moody. When fireworks popped during “Dear John,’’ the ensuing smoke, thick with the rain, hung low over the crowd and briefly obscured the stage.

It was good to see Swift humbled by an unscripted turn of events. Her stage persona continues to feel both endearing and grating. With her moony looks of disbelief and long pauses to scare up more wild applause, it’s hard now to stomach her brand of understatement. This is, after all, a fully formed pop star who struts in perpetual freeze-frame poses, long blond locks swinging in synch.

Amid the uplifting love songs (“Sparks Fly,’’ “You Belong With Me’’) and sassy kiss-offs (“Better Than Revenge,’’ “Speak Now’’), this tour manages to downplay some of the stadium bombast for a more down-home feel. With a banjo slung over her shoulder, Swift led a cozy, back-porch rendition of “Mean.’’ On piano, she was subtle and poised for “Back to December.’’ Likewise, Swift perched on a little island far from the stage to strum a ukulele on “Fearless’’ and then an acoustic guitar for “Last Kiss.’’

“Enchanted’’ played up the fairy tale fantasy that’s so pivotal to Swift’s success. If you’re shocked that she sold out Gillette twice — for a total of more than 100,000 fans — consider that she’s selling something her peers aren’t: wholesome values from a young perspective. Shock and raunch have no place in her songs; Swift is more concerned with connecting to her fans on the most basic emotional level.

That’s why “Fifteen,’’ which is still the best thing she’s ever written, resonated so profoundly. Who among us couldn’t relate to the underlying message? “ ’Cause when you’re 15 / And somebody tells you they love you / You’re gonna believe them.’’

She saved that acoustic anthem for the end of the night, with one last hit in her arsenal. As “Love Story’’ bounced out of the speakers like a summer beach ball, Swift took stock of what had just happened: “I’ll never forget the night I saw 52,000 people dancing in the rain.’’ (She would have been even more incredulous to hear the official tally was 55,000.)

In the opening slots, James Wesley and Randy Montana played up the acoustic country that’s nominally part of Swift’s appeal these days. Meanwhile, Needtobreathe, a Southern rock band with big guitar hooks to spare, shared little in common with the headliner, save for the occasional banjo.

FIND OUT TAYLOR SWIFT'S BEAUTY SECRETS

Have you ever wondered how Taylor Swift gets her hair to stay curly or her lipstick to stay on?

Swift recently answered some fan beauty questions for Allure magazine. Check them out below to find out how Taylor stays beautiful.

Taylor, like you, I have naturally curly hair. What technique do you use to curl your hair into perfect ringlets? What are your favorite products and tools?—Amy Felts
“My hair is naturally curly, so some days I just let it be. But when I wake up and my hair looks like a mess, I curl my hair by wrapping the hair around the curling iron to create a spiral look. I don’t use any hair products because I have this fear of putting too much mousse in it or something and my hair ending up feeling crunchy.”

How do you get your red lipstick to stay on all day?—Olga Navarro Davis
“There are tricks I’ve learned from makeup artists on shoots. They put on the red lipstick, then blot it with a tissue, then they put powder over the tissue and sort of press it onto your lips. Then re-apply. It turns it into a stain that lasts much longer.”

What kind of skin products do you use? Your skin always looks so healthy.—Steffany Mae-Rose Hutchings
“Thank you! I use whatever is around, really. I’ll go to the drugstore and just get makeup removal pads, facial scrubs (that I always forget to use). The one thing I do daily is a put on night cream every morning before I put on my make up, and at night before I go to bed.”

How do you keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful without resorting to tanning beds?—Mandy Viar
“I don’t mind being pale. In high school, it seemed like everybody cared about being tan all year round, but I haven’t really thought about it since then. I don’t go to a tanning bed, and I get bored when I lay out. I put sunscreen on when I’m in the sun and sometimes I get tan, but I don’t really think about it very much.”

What is your nighttime beauty routine?—Sammi Jo
“I take my contacts out, wash my face, put on night cream, and put on my glasses so I can watch Friends. Sometimes I forget to wash off my makeup. Okay—almost all the time.”

When Taylor Swift's Email Goes to the Wrong Taylor Swift

It's probably not taylor@taylorswift.com. Or taylorswift at any other e-mail address we might think of. I'm guessing the real Taylor Swift would not choose addresses that were that obvious.

But what if your name really was something like "Taylor Swift" and you had an e-mail address similar to the country superstar's? Here's what would happen: You'd get e-mails from fans hoping they were going to make it to the real Swift's inbox. And then because we're a society that shares everything with everyone, you'd post those e-mails on the Internet.

The messages on this tumblr site are pretty typical fan mail, albeit a little more nervy in terms of the requests these fans make. Fan mail used to consist of pretty straightforward "I-love-your-songs" messages. Now, as you can see from these photos, it's more of the request variety. As in, can you listen to my demo? Can we get free tickets? Can my daughter take your picture? It's probably all because Swift has built up a fan base of people who feel like she's their friend, as opposed to some untouchable goddess on a pedestal.

Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift Tried to Have a “Normal College Experience” at Notre Dame

Back in September, best friends Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift visited Taylor’s younger brother at the University of Notre Dame and attended a football game. The girls came up with a plan to try and fit in with the student, but it didn’t exactly work!

In Selena’s upcoming E! Entertainment special, the singer and some of her friends and family discuss her journey from being a Disney princess to an international star.

Taylor shares a story in the special about her trip to Notre Dame with her good friend Selena.

“So we fly to Notre Dame and decide we’re gonna fit in,” Taylor explains. “We went and we got all this Notre Dame gear so we’re like wearing the Notre Dame jacket and the Notre Dame visor and we learned that’s not how you fit in at college evidently.”

While Notre Dame students do love to show their school pride, that may have been a little overkill!

“As we were walking around masses of people ended up following us,” she said. “And yes they had to call security but it’s all we have that’s close to a normal college experience.”

Still, being able to experience some of Notre Dame is better than nothing!

The girls stood on the sidelines of the first football game of the season where Notre Dame beat the Purdue Boilermakers.

After the game, they even went to the popular pizza place Rocco’s to grab a bite to eat with other ND fans.

Unfortunately, both girls were still underage so that was the extent of their “college experience.”

Selena’s E! Entertainment special airs June 29 at 10 p.m. ET!
